1950 – BusinessWeek publishes its first executive pay survey

1951 – The Wall Street Journal purchases the ChicagoJournal of Commerce, turning it into its Midwest edition.

1951 – CBS begins its news show See it Now. It handles a number of business topics.

October 1953 – Fortune runs a 12-page special section called "The Colorado Story" that is the first to combine text with advertising.

April 17, 1954 – Brownie Wise, the woman who revolutionized the Tupperware party, was the first woman on the cover of BusinessWeek.

1954 – Bertie Forbes dies. His sons continue to run the magazine.

1954 – The Wall Street Journal runs photos of General Motors cars that have yet to be introduced to the public. GM withdraws its advertising and refuses to speak to newspaper for a month.

1955 – Fortune publishes its list of the top 500 industrial companies for the first time. General Motors tops the first list.

1957 – Loeb Awards created to honor business journalism’s best.
